What does our program look like?
YouthBuild programs provide ongoing support to their graduates after graduation in order to ensure their educational, personal, and professional success. Mentors are a key part of the YouthBuild community, supporting the learning, development, and exploration of the students.
Description of a Mentor
A mentor is an individual who wants to have an impact on a young adult’s life. They are a trusted person, who is caring and provides positive solutions and/or support. As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to provide access to people, places, and things outside the mentee’s daily routine and environment. As a mentor you will use the Life Plan of the young person as an ongoing reference point.

This commitment is for fifteen (15) months.

- Resourceful and can provide support to a young adult in achieving education or career goals
Mentor Responsibilities
- Attend orientation and training sessions
- Attend matching ceremony two to three months before student graduates
- Have at least two (2) contacts a month until graduation (at least one face to face)
- Have four (4) contacts a month after graduation for six to seven months (at least two face to face)
- Focus attention on the student’s Life Plan
- Attend two mentoring events after graduation planned by YouthBuild staff
- Communicate bi-weekly with Mentor Coordinator
- Commit to mentoring for nine months
- Attend closing ceremony
Mentor Eligibility Requirements
- Must be nominated by an enrolled student in the YouthBuild program
- Must complete an application upon being nominated by youth
- Attend a face-to-face interview session
- Have a clear criminal record check
- Not registered as a child abuse offender
- Satisfactory reference check

This commitment is for fifteen (15) months.
